Accessing help with residential care is fairly easy if you know how, but it can be overwhelming when you're unexpectedly thrust into a world where you have to consider residential care or home-help for a family member. Whether a loved one has fallen at home and is in the Public Hospital system, or you're worried about their independence and safety while they're living alone, accessing help and advice is only a phone call away. At Maupuia, we know the systems surrounding the delicate issue of care for the elderly and have regular contact with care and funding agencies.

If a family has concerns about their relative living alone or needing further help to maintain their independence, they are best to discuss their concerns with a GP or give us a call for advice or further guidance. When a family member is assessed as needing residential care, there are many points to consider on top of personal choices and convenience. All of the residents at Maupuia Total Care Centre have been assessed by a person specialising in the Older Adult as requiring some sort of ongoing care. Most often, this assessment is requested by a Public Hospital or initiated by an individual's General Practitioner (GP) and is in conjunction with Capital Support. It may also involve input from social workers and other community or rehab agencies. An assessment for Hospital level care is done by a Geriatrician and overseen by Capital Coast Rehab.

It can be daunting having to make decisions for another family member at their time of vulnerability, but help is at hand. Please don't feel afraid to ask, we're here to help.
