Residents in Maupuia Hospital have been assessed by a doctor specialising in the Older Adult as requiring "Hospital Care". Hospital Care is generally someone who needs 24 hour care they may need a lot of help with their daily cares, need constant supervision or require medical intervention from Registered Nurses. As a Private Medical Hospital, there is a Registered Nurse on duty at all times. At present, all clients assessed as needing Hospital Care get some form of Government subsidy - ie. there is a maximum to how much the client pays, and this is individually assessed or "asset tested". Resthome

Residents in Maupuia Resthome have been assessed by a doctor specialising in the Older Adult as requiring "Resthome Care". Generally they require less assistance in their general cares, require less supervision and minimal medical intervention. By law, a Registered Nurse on duty at all times is not required, but the 24 hour availability of a Registered Nurse at the adjoining hospital allows both families and staff peace of mind. Resthome clients are either fully or partially subsidised or pay privately. This criteria is determined by Government Legislation.
